Firstly a little about me…
I’m a BA (Hons) Communication and Media student at Bournemouth University in my demanding but rewarding final year. The units I’m studying this year are public relations, journalism, advertising, writing and publishing. In previous years I have also studied web communications, media/current affairs, creative writing, literature and social psychology. As you can tell, it’s an extremely varied course and I have learnt a wide range of transferable skills.
My recent experiences…
As well as completing coursework, preparing presentations and writing my dissertation I am currently aiming to gain as much experience as possible in the media industry before graduating in the summer 2011.
Back in August 2009 I had my first taste of journalism as I joined the Reading Chronicle newsroom for a couple of weeks following reporters, interviewing local residents and having my own stories and features published. Some of which can be found on this blog.
Over the summer 2010 I had the fortunate opportunity to work at a leading film and entertainment publicist, Romley Davies Publicity, based in London, whose clients include Universal, ITV and Warner Brothers Home Videos. I also spent 2 months in the PR department for Alberto Culver, the international beauty company that has leading brands such as Tresemme, Vo5, Andrew Collinge, Alberto Balsam and St Ives. More recently, I spent a valuable week of experience in the public relations and marketing departments at Oracle, a global company that provides integrated business software and hardware systems. Through these placements I have gained a vast amount of knowledge and have been able to put into practice the theory I have learnt on my degree.
All things media and comms related…
I will use this blog to publish a portfolio of my work and share experiences as well as uploading features, reviews, picture stories and many other interesting articles for you to read.
There are also great links to other media related websites so check them out too.
